Practices That Caribbean Businesses Must Use on their Website

E-commerce can be an intimidating venture for many Caribbean businesses.  However as more e-commerce solutions have come out, many regional companies are seeing the immense benefits of online shopping for both their business and customers.

While E-commerce is continuing to grow in the Caribbean there are some practices that businesses are neglecting which could improve their performance and sales online.

That being said here are 3 Practices that Caribbean Businesses Should Do on their Website:

1. SEO, SEO, SEO

If you have been researching or implementing e-commerce, chances are you have heard of SEO.  It may seem like overkill but SEO is one of the best ways for companies to get more clicks and sales.  SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.  It is techniques using Google keywords to ensure that a business’ website appears under searches related to their product or service.  For example, a shoe company would implement specific SEO techniques and keywords to ensure their website comes up when people search “sandals”, “sneakers” etc.

2. Use HQ Images & Detailed Product Descriptions

Forbes reported in their article about “Astonishing E-commerce Facts” that, “eighty-eight percent of shoppers characterize detailed product content as being extremely important”.   High-quality images and detailed product descriptions are a HUGE factor in consumers purchasing decisions, so it is important that:

  • Product images on a website are clear and high quality.  If possible, have a photo of the product from many angles.
  • Descriptions should be as detailed as possible and include both technical descriptions of the product and product benefits. If applicable instructions can also be included.
  • If possible, include a Video tutorial or 360 ° video of the product.

3. Have 24/7 support available

One of the biggest advantages of having an e-commerce website is the ability for businesses to be open 24/7. Regardless, of market conditions.  However, being open 24/7 means that a company also needs to have 24/7 customer service available to their customers.

This is usually done through a customer service team.  The team answer customers inquiries on the website, social media, email, phone etc.  However, some companies opt for chatbots especially because they can operate 24/7.

Some companies are hesitant about chatbots. However, a lot of websites have implemented chatbots full time or specifically outside of working hours.  In fact, in the same Forbes article, they reported that: “Two out of five customers are fine interacting with chatbots”.

These are just some basic practices that Caribbean businesses should do on their website in order to gain the variety of benefits of e-commerce for both consumer and company.   Fundamental practices like this have to be implemented to ensure a smooth and easy experience.
