Online fashion retailer ASOS has had a successful Christmas – it reported a 41 per cent sales rise over December.
The company said that online payment transactions had earned it sales of £78.1 million in December – up on sales from last December, which totaled £55.4 million.
Commenting on the brand’s successful performance, ASOS CEO Nick Robertson told just-style.com: “We remain positive in our outlook for 2012/13 as we continue our journey to becoming the number one online fashion destination for twenty-somethings globally.”
Market analyst George Scott, from company Conlumino, also praised the company for its expansion into the men’s market. He said: “Most notably, expansion of its own label offer has given ASOS competitiveness at the entry-level, especially among men, which is a key growth segment.”
He also said that the retailer got the balance between mass appeal and ‘underground’ fashion right.
Online retailers over a number of sectors had a good Christmas this year, with bbc.co.uk reporting that online sales were up by 1.5 per cent on December 2011 figures.
Meanwhile, it was also reported this week that a number of high street stores, such as music outlet HMV and film rental company Blockbuster, are having to go into administration due to poor sales.
