Convenience of e-commerce is attractive, claims psychologist

E-commerce is continuing to make waves in the lives of shoppers due to its convenience.

That’s according to internet psychologist Graham Jones, speaking to My Hermes, who suggested the easy shopping experience offered by retailers makes e-commerce a practical and simple solution for those looking to make an online payment for goods.

In addition, buying products online removes the element of worry when it comes to lugging a bulky or large product home.

He said: “One of the reasons why e-commerce is so popular is because it is fast and enables people to fill more of their time with social activities or other more emotionally engaging things.”

Furthermore, chatting in cafés over a hot latte is becoming the next step for social activity over shopping ever since the advent of e-commerce.

Shoppers prefer an online interface which allows them to carry out their planned transaction quickly and effectively, rather than the age old adage of browsing rack after rack in a brick-and-mortar establishment on the high street.

“E-commerce retailers who do not provide this in-and-out convenience are losing money to companies that do offer that, such as Amazon,” he added.

The popularity of e-commerce seems to be moving from strength to strength as Hostway cites figures from Forrester research, which suggested e-commerce sales in Europe could reach £145.8 billion a year by 2016.
