A technology expert has said that UK online shopping is to get a re-vamp in 2013.
Ruth Cheesley, founder of Virya Technologies, made the claim on a list of technology predictions for this year.
She said that a number of new advancements were set to be introduced to the online world, which would provide a greater shopping experience for customers.
The expert wrote on smeweb.com: “The shopping experience online will mirror in-store, with 360 degree visuals via Google maps, interactive shopping, reviews and ratings pulled in via microdata and checkout shopping via Google shopping.”
She continued: “We may even see the introduction of banking with Google too.”
Any updates would come after a great Christmas for the online retail community. According to channelbiz.co.uk, visits to online sites were up by 86 per cent on 2011 figures, with the number of online payment transactions greatly exceeding that of last year.
Cheesley also predicted that the process would work in reverse too – with high street stores becoming more digital. Retailers such as Marks & Spencer have already introduced things such as iPads into shops to benefit assistants and customers with the shopping experience, according to thegrocer.co.uk.
It is also thought that ‘Scan and shop’ systems will be introduced to high street retailers too.
