When it comes to purchasing goods and services over the internet, American consumers are finding themselves increasingly satisfied with the channel.

That’s according to the latest ecommerce report from the American Consumer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), reported by myhermes1.co.uk, which suggests overall satisfaction with ecommerce managed to increase by 1.2 per cent to 81.1 per cent on its 100-point scale.

In addition, ecommerce giant Amazon was found to be the most popular outlet with a satisfaction rating of 85, cites forseeblog.com.

Online auction site Ebay saw its rating rise by two per cent to 83 per cent while the satisfaction rate for brick-and-mortar retail was lower at 76.6 per cent, showcasing how American consumers are finding themselves increasingly enamoured with the thought of making an online payment for goods rather than shopping in-store.

However, satisfaction with online travel (76 per cent) dropped two points from last year, with Orbitz as the only travel company which didn’t lose any ground in 2012.

Claes Fornell, founder of ACSI, commented on the figures: “E-commerce is maturing, and even the smaller companies are improving, keeping up with or sometimes surpassing larger, more established companies.

“The e-commerce landscape changes faster than more traditional industries, and the rules can be rewritten by new players or new technologies, like mobile.”
