Yuppiechef claims double victory at South African eCommerce Awards

Kitchen and homeware store,Yuppiechef, has plenty of reasons to celebrate after claiming two prizes at this year’s South African eCommerce Awards.

Bizcommunity.com says the eighth annual ceremony followed a similar format to the previous events, where the country’s online retailers were rewarded for showings of excellence over the last year.

Announced last week at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, Yuppiechef managed to put itself above the country’s elite by being named Best eCommerce website.

The double triumph was complete when Yuppiechef claimed the award for Best Shopping Process. The judges could have taken a range of factors into account before naming their winner, with the ease of getting through an online payment gateway being one of the most obvious.

Andy Higgins, managing director at the event’s sponsor uAfrica.com, said: “The competition was tough this year. The final results were neck in neck with a very small margin separating the winners from the runners up.”

According to ecommerceawards.co.za, prizes were also handed out to Kalahari.com, the winner of the South Africa’s Favourite eCommerce Award, and Groupon, the winner of the Best eCommerce Mobile Website Award.

Online marketplace bidorbuy only just missed out on South Africa’s Favourite eCommerce award to kalahari.com, but this defeat was brushed to one side as the company picked up the Best Customer Service Award.
